Edition 6: Writing Across the World, Drinking Less Coffee, and Standing for Truth

From Dutch engine parts to American assassinations—this one spans continents and convictions.

Hey friends —
Some weeks feel like they zoom out and zoom in at the same time. You’re thinking globally—and also noticing what’s in your own cup.

This week hit me that way. I’ve been reflecting on deep truths, dialing in new disciplines, and appreciating the clients who trust me across borders and time zones.

Let’s get into it.

Global Clients, Local Trust: Writing Across Borders with Wilmink Engine Parts

One of the relationships I’m most proud of is with a company called Wilmink Engine Parts—based in the Netherlands. I’ve been writing for them consistently: technical articles, product pages, SEO content that helps them reach overhaul professionals across Europe and beyond.

They found me. Trusted me. And we’ve built something lasting.

It’s a good reminder that in this digital world, your value isn’t limited to a zip code. I’ve written for clients across industries—buses, cars, even healthcare—and across the world.

What matters most isn’t location. It’s clarity. Reliability. And writing that respects the audience.

Killing Truth Doesn’t Kill the Truth

This week, news broke about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. It shook me, not because of who he is politically, but because it’s yet another example in a long history of trying to kill truth by killing a person.

You see it through centuries:

  • Socrates: executed for corrupting the youth (read: speaking uncomfortable truth)
  • Jesus: crucified not for doing wrong, but for being right
  • MLK Jr.: shot not for hate, but for challenging power with peace
  • And now? It continues.

Evil always tries to kill truth by silencing the one who speaks it.

But here’s the encouragement through the pain truth doesn’t die with the messenger. We’re called to stand for “true truth”—what’s real, what’s right, and what’s often inconvenient. Even when it’s dangerous. Even when it costs us something.

This is a time to be bold and tender, not passive and nice.

Cutting Back the Coffee: 40 Years Later

Since my days at UT in the 1980s, coffee has been a constant. Early mornings and late nights, then, at Quackenbush. Client deadlines later. Long writing days now. Coffee was the inspirational fuel. What started as getting cheap machine coffee, also turned into being a coffee expert. Weird, right?

But lately, I’ve been rethinking the habit. And deep prompted ChatGPT or, as I call her, Sofia, to start looking at my sleep, my HRV, my afternoon crashes and realizing: maybe the old routine needs a reset. I track my sleep, food, intake, exercise and everything I can. So, she had a lot to work with.

So I’m cutting back. Slowly. Strategically. Respectfully. (Because let’s be honest—this isn’t easy.)

Why? Because discipline isn’t just about doing more. Sometimes it’s about doing less of what’s slowly wearing you down.

I’ll keep you posted on how it goes. How I feel, How much weight I lose from less cortisol. But if you’ve been thinking about your own physical patterns, this might be your nudge.

Thanks for reading this week.
